About the Trainer - Joanne Doucet

Joanne began training dogs as a child with her first dog, a German Shepherd named “Hilda”. Not realizing then, it would eventually lead to a lifelong passion.  She trained and showed horses as a teenager and young adult and then moved to showing in AKC Obedience after getting her first Doberman Pinscher “RJ” in 1991. Since then, she has put AKC Obedience titles on most all of her dogs and also shows in the breed ring when time and opportunity permits.

She began assisting at a dog training club in California 15 years ago and when she moved to Texas, had the opportunity to teach her own group classes for a prominent trainer, assisting pet owners with their dogs and help them address their individual needs. While still in California, she had the benefit of training with some very successful trainer/exhibitors and after moving to Texas was fortunate to have been able to work with Cathy Niles who has been a friend and mentor for the past 10 years.

Joanne currently has three competition obedience dogs all Border Collies); “Gator” (CH, UDX5, OM8, CGC and Herding Instinct Certificate).  He is currently working on an OTCH. “Twister” (CH, UD, CGC, Herding Instinct Certificate), is just beginning his obedience career and recently finished his Utility Dog title. He will begin working towards his advanced titles in the Spring 2014. “Grace” is just 2 years old and is working on her AKC Championship. She will begin showing in obedience in the Summer of 2014.

In addition to the Border Collies, Joanne has two retired Dobermans, “Levi” (UD, CGC) and “Stryker” (CH, CGC). And if that weren’t enough, she has a Parson Russell Terrier, “Chicky”  (ME) who is currently competing in AKC Earthdog Competitions and is working on her Endurance Earthdog (EE) title.

While currently a member of the Border Collie Society of America and also and AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator, she is a past member of the Doberman Pinscher Club of America, Doberman Pinscher Club of Northern California (past President, Vice President and Secretary), Doberman Pinscher Club of Dallas, Marin County Dog Training Club and County-Wide Dog Training Club

Joanne’s goal is to train dogs to be good family members that travel well and are well behaved in public as well as at home. She truly enjoys sharing with other dog owners the joy of having a well-trained dog in the family. For her, helping the owner is just as important (sometimes more so) as training the dog and she enjoys seeing the pride and accomplishment when dogs and their owners succeed at home and the show ring.
